Badgers Wood environmental policy

Proactively reducing the impact we all have on the local environment

There is no doubt Badgers Wood is located in one of the most beautiful parts of the English countryside. The lakes and fells provide a fantastic backdrop in which to live or to visit. We are conscious that we have an obligation to look after and protect our environment, and whether you believe in climate change or not, we ask for your help to minimise our environmental impact during your stay with us.

To achieve this we are personally committed to making best use of resources by reducing consumption, recycling waste and using public transport and we encourage our guests to consider these environmental issues. For our part we actively:

  • Support local businesses by purchasing our fresh produce either in Keswick or regionally within Cumbria to reduce "food miles" and provide jobs in the local economy.
  • Use energy efficient appliances and by monitoring usage identify unnecessary consumption and so reduce the overall cost to the environment of gas, electricity and water production.
  • Recycle as much household rubbish that is generated from within the house as is possible, thereby reducing the demand we place on the diminishing availability of land fill sites in Cumbria.
  • Provide information about public transport within the Lake District and suggest activities or walks that can be undertaken without the need for our guests to use their car and so add to their carbon footprint.

It would be easy for us all to say that it does not matter how we behave towards the environment, but while staying at Badgers Wood we would ask you to join us in our small way. By acting together we can make a big difference towards protecting our wonderful landscape.
